The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs provides services and resources that support the academic mission of the institution. They provide a supportive environment where individual growth and cultural expression is encouraged and academic excellence expected. 

The UM LGBTQ Student Center fosters inclusion and support of University of Miami students, faculty, staff, and alumni inclusive of all genders, orientations, and expressions, and focusses on education and outreach, programming, intergroup engagement, empowerment, and advocacy for increased visibility in the university community.

The Veterans Resource Center provides support and guidance to veteran students for their successful transition from military service to campus life and connects them and military-connected students to academic and other University resources through collaborative programs and engagement activities with campus partners.

The McKnight Doctoral Fellowship program, funded by the Florida Education Fund, is designed to address the under-representation of African American and Hispanic faculty at colleges and universities in the state of Florida by increasing the pool of citizens qualified with Ph.D. degrees to teach at the college and university levels. As a by-product, it is expected that employment opportunities in the industry will also be expanded.



The University of Miami is a chapter institution of the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society, which was named for Edward Alexander Bouchet, the first African American doctoral recipient in the United States. The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement and promotes diversity and excellence in doctoral education and the professoriate.

The University of Miami is a member institution of the National Name Exchange, a consortium of universities established for the purpose of helping match graduate schools with underrepresented ethnic minority students interested in pursuing graduate study. 


The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is a federal effort aimed at preparing low-income, first-generation in college and minority students to pursue graduate studies. The McNair Scholars Directory is designed to provide graduate schools with access to McNair Scholars who have expressed an interest in pursuing graduate studies. McNair Scholars are eligible for an application fee waiver for graduate study at the University of Miami. 


Title IX is a federal civil rights law that protects people from discrimination based on sex in educational programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance.
