Maytag Fellowship

The Maytag Fellowship is one of the highest awards offered by the Graduate School.  The Maytag Fellowship carries with it a stipend in the amount of $20,000 per academic year.  Maytag Fellowships are a one-year fellowship, renewable for no more than two years after the first year (for total stipend support in an amount no more than $60,000).  The Fellow's department may provide multi-year additional support in the form of a Graduate Student Assistantship which may entail some combination of teaching support (a Teaching Assistantship) or working on a research project (a Research Assistantship). Subject to the approval of the Fellow's Advisor, Department Chair and the Dean of the Graduate School, the Fellow is free to select which three years to be supported by the Maytag Fellowship.  Fellows are not to hold a teaching or research assistantship during the Maytag Fellowship years.

In addition to the stipend and benefits listed above, the financial assistance package includes a full tuition scholarship to cover the cost of the Fellow's course work in the program and it is provided to the Fellow by his/her department. At an estimated tuition rate of $1,950 per credit for the 2017-2018 academic year, this award is currently valued up to $35,100 per academic year (18 credits) and is renewable annually for up to five years, conditional upon academic progress.

Additionally, the University of Miami Graduate School, in coordination with the Office of the Provost, is planning to cover 80% of the cost of the University of Miami Student Health Insurance when the Fellow purchases the 2016-2017 student health insurance offered through the University of Miami Student Health Center.  In order to receive the 80% credit the Fellow must purchase the insurance through the University and request payment through payroll deduction.  Visit for additional information.
