Dean's Fellowship

The Dean's Fellowship is the most prestigious award offered by the Graduate School. The Dean's Fellowship carries with it a stipend in the amount of $25,000 per academic year (for total stipend support in the amount of $50,000). The Fellow's department may provide multi-year additional support in the form of a Graduate Student Assistantship which may entail some combination of teaching support (a Teaching Assistantship) or working on a research project (a Research Assistantship). Subject to the approval of the Fellow's Advisor, Department Chair and the Dean of the Graduate School, the Fellow is free to select which two years to be supported by the Dean's Fellowship.  Fellows are not to hold a teaching or research assistantship during the Dean's Fellowship years.

Additionally, Dean’s Fellows receive the following benefits during the two years of the fellowship:

  • $3,000 in research travel reimbursements at a maximum of $1,500 per year, for years covered by the Dean’s Fellowship.
  • 100% Healthcare subsidy (for years covered by the Dean’s Fellowship) when Fellow's purchase the 2017-2018 student health insurance offered through the University of Miami Student Health Center.  Visit for additional information.  Please note that you must inform the Graduate School of your intent to use the 100% subsidy prior to the first day of the Fall semester 2017.
  • Special Recognition in printed/web media internal and external to the University.

In addition to the stipend and benefits listed above, the financial assistance package includes a full tuition scholarship to cover the cost of the Fellow's course work in the program and it is provided to the Fellow by his/her department. At an estimated tuition rate of $1,950 per credit for the 2017-2018 academic year, this award is currently valued up to $35,100 per academic year (18 credits) and is renewable annually for up to five years, conditional upon academic progress.
