Professional Development Seminar Series

Fall 2017 Professional Development Events Calendar

The Graduate School is excited to release the Fall semester’s calendar of Professional and Personal Development Events for UM graduate students.

The programming for this semester’s calendar was guided in large part by student surveys and requests, in collaboration with the Graduate Student Association (GSA), to ensure it covered the most relevant topics for students. It was a priority to be responsive to what graduate students felt they needed in terms of professional and personal development.

Topics for this semester focus on mentorship, scholarly communication, teaching, research, career preparation (for both academia and non-academia), as well as personal development (e.g., wellness and work-life integration).

The calendar includes sessions led by UM partners, such as the Toppel Career Center, the Counseling Center, GSA, the Writing Center, Center for the Humanities, Richter Library, among others, as students also requested to have a central place for all graduate student relevant events.

The intent of this calendar is to complement the programming already provided by the different Schools and Colleges this semester, while encouraging interdisciplinary connections and promoting the development of cross-cutting professional skills. Event content was planned to be as relevant to a broad audience of graduate students as possible.

Students should be sure to monitor our online calendar, for updates to these events and to find out about additional events which have yet to be announced. We also encourage students to send us their recommendations on useful and relevant topics for the spring semester programming via email to
